Meeting of the "Civil Dialogue Group Forestry and Cork" in Brussels

Following the invitation of the EU Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), the "Civil Dialogue Group on Forestry and Cork" met on 12 July in Brussels. The Civil Dialogue Group is the civic committee of the EU Commission on political issues affecting forests and forestry in Europe. It is attended by European land- and forest ownership associations, other interest groups within the forestry and timber industry section and environmental NGOs.

The main topics of discussion were the post-2020 European Forest Strategy, the evaluation of the current EU Biodiversity Strategy and the EU Action Plan for Sustainable Finance.

The forest ownership associations appreciated towards the Commission that the recent conference "Our Forests, Our Future" publicly focused the multifarious services of forests for the first time at European level. With regard to the post-2020 EU Forest Strategy, they reiterated their call for a strong and coherent strategy as a key component for maintaining and developing multifunctional forests in Europe, which can sustainably deliver their diverse services to nature and society in the face of increasing threats.

Furthermore, the participants were informed about the implementation modalities of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy against the background of a new post-2020 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and about the state of play of LULUCF. The technical advisor of FECOF, Maximilian Hauck, participated as the representative of the municipal forest ownership in the meeting in Brussels.
